Neither is universally better. Laboratory science suits those who prefer diagnostic and technical work; community health suits those interested in public health outreach and primary care.
Both fields have demand. Laboratory technicians are needed in hospitals and private labs; community health practitioners are essential in primary healthcare centres and LGA health departments.
Both contain substantial practical components, but the nature of the practicals differs (lab bench vs community fieldwork).
Course transfer is sometimes possible early in the programme, subject to college policy and space.
